Tanzania faces difficult economic challenges—its economy depends heavily on agriculture, which accounts for almost half of its gross domestic product and employs 80% of the work force.

However, the climate and topography limit cultivated crops to only 4% of the land. Because of these factors, Tanzania faces chronic food insecurity and poverty.

The average life expectancy is 51.

Malaria in Tanzania

Malaria is the leading cause of death among both adults and children in Tanzania and is the most common reason for inpatient and outpatient hospital admissions.
