Felicidade, Uige Province of Angola

Before NetsforLife® came to the village of Mucaba in the Uige Province of Angola, Felicidade (not pictured), a 48-year-old mother of five young children, needed to go to the provincial hospital at least once a month with one of her children presenting malaria symptoms. “I had no hope that this suffering would one day end,” she said. “All I saw was that my children would die … there was torment in my life and heart.”

Malaria created an enormous burden for Felicidade. The cost of the trips to the hospital depleted the family’s meager income, and with each trip she lost valuable time to work on her farm.

In June 2008, Felicidade attended malaria-prevention trainings sponsored by the Diocese of Angola. She learned basic prevention techniques and received three nets to cover her children while they slept.

Since then, none of her children has contracted malaria. Felicidade no longer is running to the hospital each month. She can devote her time to cultivating and harvesting produce for her family.

Felicidade is grateful for the help she received through NetsforLife®. “I thank God that the nets came to Mucaba so that my family and I might live better than before,” she said.
