Cletus Asare, the NetsforLife® Program Support and Logistics Officer, shares his recent experience in DR Congo.  His agenda was to train NetsforLife® partners and in-country Diocesan staff on behavior change communication.  What he did not realize is that the people in the church, and those outside listening in, would teach him about the strength and hope of people who have lived in violent conflict and the spirit  with which they are willing to teach and learn.

Saving Lives with Malaria Nets and Education

Netsforlife® is doing very well in all our countries as lives are being saved and reported malaria cases have decreased by 50%. The program quality is good and our methodology is becoming the gold standard across countries. Globally, only four countries in sub-Saharan Africa are recorded to have achieved universal coverage for malaria nets distributed, and Netsforlife® operates in two out of the four countries. In these two countries (Liberia and Sierra Leone), the health authorities have recognized the immense contribution of Netsforlife® towards their achievements.

Reflection on Global Business Coalition 2 day meeting and award ceremony

Although I have been involved in the relief and development industry for nearly 30 years, the last two days have made clear to me that NetsforLife® is a unique program in the way it is structured, governed and supported.

I have just attended the Global Business Coalition’s annual conference in Washington, DC, where “more than 200 of the world’s top companies … united with the public sector [to take] front-line action on global health.” The event brought together many of these companies, top government officials, dignitaries and not-for-profits. With presenters and speakers such as United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, US Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius and activist and recording star Annie Lennox, the event drew a great deal of media attention.
